Miley Oh Miley what shall we do with you???

Image            In the past couple of weeks Miley Cyrus has made quite the debut in the media.  From her raunchy debut of the “twerking” dance with Robin Thicke at the VMA Awards, to her new single “Wrecking Ball” Miley seems to be on a role with making headlines.  You may remember Miley Cyrus as Disney’s star from the Hannah Montana television show.  I would have never thought she would go from this sweet and innocent being, to this raunchy, sex icon.  Then again one has to admit that she would grow up sooner or later.

Many people have criticized Miley for her newest hit “Wrecking Ball” because of her provocative video.  In this video Miley is seen in a cropped t-shirt and her panties, fully nude at times and she licks a sledgehammer.  There were many negative reactions to this video and many failed to realize the message behind it.  Billy Cyrus (Miley’s father) was quoted saying “It wouldn’t have mattered if Miley would have worn jeans and a flannel shirt, a tux or a nun’s habit—her performance vocally on the tune reflects her roots and sheer God-given talent” (Entertainment Tonight, 9/11).  I agree 100% with her father.  Miley has an amazing voice and her control and range is shown through this song.

If anyone can clarify what this song symbolizes it would be Miley herself.  She was quoted telling Z100 how she felt about the comments and what the song really means.  Miley goes on to say if people could go beyond what they see and use their imagination they would be able to notice that in the video she is shattered and sad about something.   When I first saw the video and heard the song it was as if she was singing a sad love song.  Only the creative team for the video understands fully why she chose to be nude, and no matter what she says or does she will forever be in the scrutiny of the human eye because she is a celebrity.

So for having 44 million views on YouTube and the #1 spot on Billboards Top 100, I say kudos to Miley for well you know just being Miley!
